First-Timer’s Guide to
Hot 26&2 Yoga
Welcome to your hot yoga journey! Stepping into the hot room for the first time is an exciting milestone. Hot 26&2 yoga (a structured 90-minute series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises practiced in a room heated to 105°F / 40.5°C with 40% humidity) is designed to stretch, strengthen, and detoxify your entire body safely. Follow our easy 3-step preparation guide below to set yourself up for a comfortable and empowering first class.
Step 1: What to Bring & How to Hydrate
1. Two Towels
Mat Towel: A full-length yoga towel (or standard bath towel) to place over your yoga mat. This absorbs sweat and prevents slipping during postures.
Sweat Towel: A second clean towel for wiping your face during class or drying off in our locker rooms after practice.
2. Water & Hydration Strategy
32 oz Water Bottle: Bring a sturdy, insulated 32 oz water bottle filled with cold water.
Pre-Class Hydration: Start hydrating 24 hours before your class! Drink plenty of water throughout the day leading up to your session. Consider adding electrolytes (or a pinch of sea salt) to your water before coming in.
During Class: The instructor will announce official water breaks after the first few standing postures, but you are always free to sip water whenever you need to.
3. Yoga Mat
Bring your own yoga mat if you have one, or borrow one from our front desk upon arrival.
Tops
Recommended Attire: Sports bras, form-fitting tank tops, or athletic light shirts (moisture-wicking).
What to Avoid: Heavy cotton t-shirts, oversized tops that obstruct motion or hold sweat.
Bottoms
Recommended Attire: Form-fitting yoga shorts, athletic trunks, or lightweight cropped leggings.
What to Avoid: Sweatpants, heavy cotton shorts, or loose pants that get heavy when wet.
Footwear
Recommended Attire: Bare feet! Shoes and socks are removed before entering the hot room.
What to Avoid: Socks or street shoes inside the yoga room.
Because the room is heated to 105°F, wearing lightweight, breathable, and sweat-wicking materials is key to staying cool and comfortable.
Step 2: What to Wear
Step 3: Arrival Timing & Studio Etiquette
1. Arrive 20 Minutes Early
Plan to arrive 15 to 20 minutes before class starts. This gives you time to check in, sign a quick waiver, tour the facility, change, and set up your mat inside the hot room to acclimate to the heat.
2. Late Entry Policy
For safety and to maintain a peaceful environment for all practitioners, doors are locked strictly at the scheduled start time.
3. Room Etiquette & Mindset
Silent Hot Room: The hot room is a quiet space for relaxation and focus. Please keep conversations low before class.
No Shoes / No Phones: Leave street shoes in the designated cubbies and leave mobile phones in locker rooms or cubbies.
Listen to Your Body: Your only goal for your first class is to stay in the room. If you feel overwhelmed or lightheaded, simply sit or lie down on your mat, take calm breaths through your nose, and rejoin the class when you feel ready.
Pro-Tip for Beginners
No need to hit every posture perfectly or staying up the whole time! Everyone in the room remembers their very first class. Focus on breathing calmly, taking rests on your mat whenever needed, and staying inside the room for the full 90 minutes.
